Taoufik Rabbaa, CEO of Citibank Maghreb since 2017, is the first Moroccan to hold this position in more than fifty years of Citibank’s presence in the Kingdom.
When Taoufik Rabbaa was appointed CEO of Citibank Maghreb in 2017, his peers saw it as well-deserved recognition for a discreet banker who has spent most of his career within the American group. In addition to his responsibilities as CEO, he also oversees teams managing treasury and international trade operations for the North Africa region.
Taoufik Rabbaa is part of the first graduating class of Al Akhawayn University, where he earned a master’s degree in computer science in 1997. A true product of Citi, he has spent his entire career with the company. Within the Citi Group structure, Morocco falls under the Middle East and Africa region, which includes 29 countries. With its major corporations, export-driven leaders, and regular sovereign debt offerings on international capital markets, Morocco is one of Citibank’s most dynamic markets in the region, posting double-digit growth in 2023.
Within the bank, Taoufik Rabbaa has held several leadership roles, including overseeing the development of operations, products, and banking solutions across MENA markets. From 2011 to June 2013, he also led client sales management for the Middle East, Egypt, and Pakistan from a post based in Dubai.
A desire to support youth
Despite a demanding schedule, the CEO of Citibank remains deeply involved in numerous social causes and organizations. He serves on the executive committees of Injaz Al-Maghrib and Enactus Morocco, two NGOs that actively support youth entrepreneurship.
This social commitment is a key pillar of Citi’s strategy in Morocco. Through a network of partner organizations, the bank helps young people improve their employability, strengthen their soft skills, or launch their own businesses. It’s a major CSR initiative, with employees dedicating several hours of volunteer work each year.
