Tangier remains the fourth-largest tourist destination in early 2026

The city of Tangier cemented its position as the fourth most-visited tourist destination nationwide during the first quarter of 2026, according to the Observatoire National du Tourisme (ONT).

Data from the ONT indicates that Tangier recorded more than 417,000 tourist overnight stays between January and March of this year, representing year-over-year growth of approximately 11%. This represents 4% of the total number of overnight stays recorded nationwide, behind Marrakech (34%), Agadir (20%), and Casablanca (8%).

Classified hotels and tourist accommodations in Tangier posted an occupancy rate of approximately 47% during the first quarter of this year, lower than the national rate of 52%.

In March alone, classified tourist accommodation establishments in Tangier recorded around 133,000 overnight stays, higher by 26% compared to the same period last year, with an occupancy rate of around 41%.

The same source notes that across the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, classified tourist accommodation establishments totaled some 654,000 overnight stays as of the end of last March, an increase of approximately 2% compared to the same period in 2025. This volume represents nearly 7% of overnight stays recorded nationwide, with an average occupancy rate of 36%.

Nationally, classified tourist accommodation establishments recorded nearly 9.85 million overnight stays during the first quarter of the year, an increase of 10% compared to the same period last year. This figure breaks down into 7.8 million overnight stays by international tourists and 2.1 million overnight stays by domestic tourists.
