Five things Moroccan fans need to know before the 2026 World Cup

Following the draw for the 2026 World Cup, Moroccan fans are preparing to follow the Atlas Lions to the US East Coast. With soaring hotel prices, complex ticketing and a lack of offers from RAM, here are five essential tips for organizing your trip to the USA.

  1. A journey between three iconic American cities

Morocco will play its three group matches on the East Coast of the United States. The first match against Brazil will take place on June 13 at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey, followed by a match against Scotland on June 19 at Boston’s Gillette Stadium (more precisely in Foxborough, some 35 km south of the city), before concluding the group phase against Haiti on June 24 at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Grouping the matches on the US East Coast will facilitate travel for Moroccan fans wishing to follow the national team in its three matches.

  1. Soaring hotel prices around the matches

Moroccan fans can expect considerably higher hotel rates. According to an analysis by The Athletic, hotel room prices rose by an average of over 300% in the 16 host cities after the schedule was confirmed. In New York and New Jersey, the average increase was 228%. In Boston, it’s 261%, with some establishments like the Moxy Boston Downtown posting increases of 521% (from $492 to $3056 per night). In Atlanta, the average increase is 344%. These increases far exceed those seen during the Paris Olympics in 2024, when the increase was « only » 141%. Fans are therefore urged to book as early as possible or explore alternative accommodation options such as Airbnb or hotels on the outskirts of cities.

  1. Ticketing: a complex process starting on December 11

The next phase of ticket sales, called « Random Selection Draw, » will open on December 11 at 11am (US Eastern Time) and run until January 13, 2026. Unlike previous phases, this time fans will be able to request tickets for specific matches. Moroccan fans will also be able to access an allocation of tickets via the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, which will receive around 8% of the tickets for each match involving Morocco. Details of how these tickets will be allocated will be communicated by the FRMF. If you miss out on the lottery, a « last minute » sales phase will take place in the spring of 2026, but it is difficult to predict how many tickets will be available and for which matches.

  1. Royal Air Maroc has not yet announced any special offers

To date, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has yet to announce any special offers or packages dedicated to World Cup 2026 ticket holders, unlike what it offered at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. For these previous editions, the national airline had introduced preferential rates, additional flights and packages combining air tickets and accommodation to facilitate travel for Moroccan fans. We’ll be keeping a close eye on RAM’s announcements over the coming weeks, while comparing offers from other airlines serving the US East Coast.

  1. Getting around: use public transport

In each of the three cities where the Lions will be playing, public transport is the most practical option for getting to the stadiums.

  • New York/New Jersey: MetLife Stadium is accessible via special trains from Penn Station in Manhattan. NJ Transit will provide extra service on match days. Absolutely avoid driving: traffic will be nightmarish and parking problematic.
  • Boston (Foxborough): Gillette Stadium, located in Foxborough about 35 km south of Boston, is served by a special train line from Boston’s South Station. These trains only run during major events, and tickets sell out quickly – book in advance. If you’re driving, allow extra time for traffic and parking.
  • Atlanta: Mercedes-Benz Stadium is ideally located in the heart of downtown, within walking distance of a MARTA station (Atlanta’s subway system). It’s by far the most accessible stadium of the three by public transport.

In all three cases, avoid renting a car just to get to the games. American traffic on the days of major events is notoriously difficult. Above all, parking rates around the stadiums should be around $75 minimum (around 700 dirhams).
