Maroc Telecom doubles fiber speed for its subscribers

Maroc Telecom has announced a permanent upgrade for its fiber internet subscribers, doubling broadband speeds across its plans. The move, which will affect the entire pricing structure, has been confirmed by a reliable source within the company. The official announcement is expected very soon.

As early as Sunday, users began sharing screenshots on social media showing their upgraded speeds — most notably, increases from 100 Mb/s to 200 Mb/s for those on the 100 Mb/s plan. The rollout is underway and progressing gradually. While some customers have already seen the change, others are still on the previous tiers. However, according to our source, the upgrade will apply to all fiber subscribers, regardless of their current plan.

This shift echoes Maroc Telecom’s past strategy of regularly doubling ADSL speeds. “It’s part of the ongoing policy to reduce prices, which began several years ago, and marks a new chapter for the company,” our source notes, referring to the recent appointment of Mohamed Benchaâboune as CEO and the easing of tensions with rival operator Inwi, particularly following their recent fiber agreement.

New pricing structure

Here’s what’s changing:

  • The current 100 Mb/s plan will double to 200 Mb/s at no additional cost, maintaining its price of 500 dirhams per month.

  • A new 100 Mb/s plan will be introduced at a lower price of 400 dirhams.

  • The top-tier plan, previously offering 200 Mb/s, will now provide 1 Gb/s, still priced at 1,000 dirhams per month.

These changes confirm earlier reports first published by tech news outlet Tic Maroc.

Maroc Telecom’s official website now displays the new pricing, the new rates will take effect on May 1. All existing customers — as well as new subscribers in the coming days — will automatically benefit from the updated speeds and pricing.

A boost for digitalization

According to the latest figures (September 2024) from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT, Agence nationale de réglementation des télécommunications), Morocco has 42.13 million Internet subscriptions, representing a 112.73% penetration rate, including 989,640 fiber connections. Mobile internet accounts for 39.42 million subscriptions, while 1.58 million users remain on ADSL.

This reduction in fiber pricing is seen as a major step forward for Morocco’s digital transformation, offering higher speeds at lower costs — a key advantage for both small businesses and individual users, whose needs are expanding rapidly with growing demands for streaming, gaming, smart devices, and more.
