The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) has launched a project to upgrade its Geographic Oil Information System (SIGP), a strategic tool used for its oil exploration operations. The project, with a budget in excess of 3 million dirhams, reflects the determination of the office, headed by Amina Benkhadra, to adopt cutting-edge technologies to modernize its infrastructures and optimize its performance, according to sources consulted by TelQuel.

The SIGP is an essential platform for the management, analysis and visualization of geospatial and technical data relating to hydrocarbons. By centralizing essential information such as seismic data, exploration campaigns, oil blocks and operating licenses, this system guarantees informed decision-making and increased efficiency in operations, according to the same sources.

To carry out this project, ONHYM has entrusted Geomatic, a Moroccan player specializing in geographic information systems, chaired by Hassan Moussaria, with the overhaul of the SIGP. In addition to installing, configuring and migrating databases dating back to 2011, the company will also provide corrective and evolutionary maintenance of the system for a renewable one-year period. The aim of this partnership is to provide the SIGP with new capabilities for managing complex data, such as 2D and 3D seismic, drilling campaign monitoring and contractual information management.

The specifications, consulted by TelQuel, detail the project’s strategic functionalities. These include reservoir modeling, the production of maps and technical reports, and the automation of processes relating to oil licenses and contracts. These advances will enable more accurate visualization and in-depth analysis, facilitating collaboration between the board’s various departments, such as oil exploration, mining exploration and the promotion of ONHYM’s assets.

This initiative is part of a wider strategy to modernize ONHYM’s digital infrastructure. By adopting modern technologies, ONHYM aims not only to increase the value of its data, but also to strengthen its competitiveness in a sector where precision and innovation are essential levers.
