Fuel prices in Morocco mirror global market shifts

According to the Competition Council, changes in diesel and gasoline prices on the domestic market generally mirrored the fluctuations observed on international markets between March 1 and May 16, 2026.

« A comparative analysis of the period from March 1 to May 16, 2026, shows that changes in international prices were generally passed on to retail prices at the pump in Morocco, although there were variations depending on the product and the two-week periods observed,«  the Council states in its recent note on the evolution of diesel and gasoline prices on international markets and their impact on retail prices at the pump in the domestic market.

Regarding diesel, the cumulative changes in retail prices (4.18 DH/L) remain broadly in line with those of international prices (4.24 DH/L), resulting in a limited overall difference of -0.06 DH/L.

For gasoline, international prices have risen by a cumulative 2.81 DH/L, compared to a 2.43 DH/L increase in retail prices at the pump, resulting in an overall difference of -0.38 DH/L.

In line with previous analyses, this note from the Competition Council examined the evolution of international diesel and gasoline prices as well as their pass-through to retail prices at the pump nationwide over all two-week periods covering the period from March 1 to May 16, 2026, against a backdrop marked by persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their impact on the volatility of international energy markets.
