Why it matters
The journey between Casablanca and Mohammed V Airport often causes concern due to the persistent traffic jams on the highway, which also connects to Marrakech.
What will be done
To address this situation, local authorities have undertaken the construction of a new 2×2 lane road stretching 9 km between the Green Town (Ville Verte) and the airport, as well as the doubling of the existing road (RP 3020) over a 1.5 km stretch, with a total investment of 180 million dirhams.
This budget also includes the implementation of an interchange system with the intersecting roads and the installation of street lighting. This project is part of the 2023-2028 Municipal Action Plan (PAC).
What it will cost
Financed as part of a partnership agreement signed in June 2022 between the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Equipment, the Casablanca-Settat Region, and the National Airports Office (ONDA), the project benefits from joint funding. This includes a contribution of 60 million dirhams from the Ministry of Equipment and 40 million dirhams each from the General Directorate of Local Authorities (DGCT), the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council, and ONDA.
Who will be in charge
The construction of this road, which will pass through Boulevard Taddart, Ville Verte, the Bouskoura Forest, and then join Road P 3038 near Mohammed V International Airport, has been entrusted to the company Les Grands Chantiers Routiers (GCR), a subsidiary of Delta Holding led by Rachid Saboni. This company is responsible for the earthworks, detours, and protection of existing networks on the site. According to our sources, this road is expected to open to traffic starting in May 2024.
